Guardian and CROMPCO Deliver

It was a typical busy day when Darin Gingrich, manager of Guardian Fueling Technologies' Miramar, Florida, branch location, received a call from CROMPCO's Steve Moore, who was on site at a Hess station in Ft. Lauderdale. CROMPCO was doing its regular compliance and maintenance testing at the station, and something wasn't right. There was a problem with a flexible line in an STP sump. Designated as CROMPCO's maintenance service provider for the area's Hess stations, Guardian was ready for any situation.

A well-coordinated response to the discovery of a flexible line leak in this STP sump put the customer back online within three hours.

Gingrich knew the Hess station well. It was located close to the ocean, and a leak could create a very serious problem. “The sump could have overflowed and fuel would have gotten into the water.” From the company's GPS system, Gingrich knew Guardian maintenance workers were in the area, and he immediately rerouted his team to quickly be on site at the Hess station.

CROMPCO's Howard initially alerted Gingrich that their inspection showed the problem to be with the flex line. “But,” says Gingrich, “flex lines aren't all the same,” and he was eager to have his men take a look. The flex line indeed was the problem, but it was larger than any replacements on the truck. Guardian had one in its warehouse, and the parts manager drove it to the Hess location. The repair was finished within two hours. CROMPCO, meanwhile, was waiting on site to retest the line. When all was well, the station was reopened. Total time from discovery to repair to retest to restart: three hours! Total value to customer: priceless!

CROMPCO Vice President Chuck Pedano points to his company's partnership with Guardian as a win-win for Hess. “We support each other through our different services. The partnership between Guardian and CROMPCO enabled the problem to be identified, repaired and retested within three hours, rather than three days, ultimately reducing the cost to the customer.” Gingrich seconds it. “We do what we do best, and CROMPCO does what they do best. It's a win-win for the customer.” Now that's a partnership.
