The PEI Journal regularly receives comments from our readers. Some of the comments received in the past include: “This is the most useful and relevant trade journal I’ve ever read.” “Boss is hogging it; I want my own.” “Loved reading the Forecast issue.” “President and Executive Director columns, along with the Member Profiles and member comments make the people and the organization come to life to the reader.” “Top notch.” To kick off this new Letters to the Editor section, we are publishing letters sent during the past quarter. We invite you to send us your comments. Letters must be received with a name and contact information. Please let us know what you are thinking about your magazine. Send your comments to Carole Jesiolowski, Editor, carole@thepeijournal.com.

KNOW MORE
I was out of the petroleum dispensing equipment industry for a few years helping my husband build our business. When I came back into the business as a sales/marketing manager, I asked what I needed to do with advertising. I was told we don't advertise any longer. The magazines that had addressed petroleum dispensing equipment had changed their direction and they no longer met our needs. When The PEI Journal came onto the scene, we were excited once again. With the first advertisement we put into your magazine, we immediately got a response from customers who wanted to know more about the product. The PEI Journal is very well put together, informative and high quality. One other advantage I like is†we can get online and read the articles when the magazine might not be readily available.

AWESOME
The 2nd Quarter 2008 issue was the best PEI Journal yet. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Keep up the good work promoting our industry.

REGULATORS WEIGH IN
The article “Very Light Jet Fueling Systems” (2nd Quarter 2008) states: “Aviation refueling...is highly regulated and defined by a number of industry standards” and mentions the Third Edition of API 1581. The filter vessel should meet the Fifth Edition, which is the latest edition of API 1581. The Fifth Edition has been in existence for a few years now. Proves the experts can occasionally be in error.
Sheldon Schall, Chief, Storage Tank Regulation Section, Wisconsin Department of Commerce

Author Gordon Johnson responds: Sheldon is indeed correct that the latest edition of API 1581 is the Fifth Edition. However, nowhere in†my article did I state “Third Edition of API 1581.” We are appreciative of the strong interest generated by the article; we have received numerous phone calls and e-mail messages from PEI members around the world. (Ed. Note: The author correctly states in his article: “Aviation refueling is a highly specialized disciplineÖthat is highly regulated and defined by a number of industry standards such as ATA 103, NFPA 407, API 1581, API 1529 and others.” He does not cite the edition or version of any standard.)

GTOs UNITE
The story about PEI's Charlotte Smart and her 1965 Pontiac GTO in the 2nd Quarter issue prompted me to share a photo of my GTO. The picture was taken by its previous owner and is shown with Honeycomb wheels, but I replaced those with Rally II wheels shortly after I purchased it. It is a numbers-matching car, original engine, transmission and rear end, with original sheet metal and mostly original paint. It has been touched up in the usual places over the years but is basically a rust-free car. It has the 455 HO with a four-speed and is a blast to drive. The 8-track tape player still works, and I bought a bunch of 70s rock tapes off eBay and listen to them while driving.
